Breanne’s Barberton Senior Portrait Session

Yesterday,  I had a brief session with Breanne, the daughter of my clients and friends, Shelli and Pat Brady. Breanne will be promoting Spencer Photography Inc. at Barberton High School. We do a limited number of senior year portraits each year and when we do them, we try to make them as unique as we can. Here are a few images from the session:

Doug and Pegg’s Cleveland Zoo Photo Session

Yesterday was the PERFECT day to spend at the Zoo and that is EXACTLY where we had Doug and Pegg’s engagement session. I will be photographing their wedding next week at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights, Ohio.  The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is vast and surrounded by many opportunities, especially on a beautiful March afternoon. We were surrounded by exotic animals but my favorite images were some out of the way areas that presented some great textures and, of course, light. Here a just a few:

Award Winning Cleveland Wedding Photography

This weekend, I attended the Professional Photographers of America Northeast Regional Convention and Image competition hosted by the Professional Photographers of Ohio at Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky, Ohio. All four of my wedding images that were entered received a Blue Ribbon (I was one of only three other photographers in Ohio to attain this level). My image “The Next Step” won the “Robert Graetz Award” for the highest scoring Ohio bridal image. My image “Into the Light” won the “Professional Photographers of Northeast Ohio Award” for Most Outstanding bridal image in Ohio. This has also placed me in the top 10 photographers in the state of Ohio. I am truly honored by these accolades and eternally grateful for all of my wedding clients whom, without them, I would not be able to pursue and succeed in the this glorious art form. I want to thank my bridal clients Tom and Alison Mera; Matt and Erin Adams; Steve and Katie Klick; and Mike and Lindsey Gbur without whom these images would not be possible.  Here are the winning images:

Matt, Erin and Max’s Akron family portrait session

Today I had the wonderful honor of meeting Max Adams (I love that name! It’s like a superhero or a super spy) Max is the son of Matt and Erin Adams. I photographed Matt and Erin’s wedding this past year in Massillon, Ohio (see it here). I offer all of our bridal clients one complimentary session per year. I do this for a few reasons. First, and most importantly, it allows me to stay in touch with my bridal clients. It also is a added benefit to having us as your wedding photographer. When I photograph a family and, especially a baby, my whole focus is on connection. No gimmicks; not too many props (if any at all); no funky distorting angles or dangling babies from trees (??!!). Too many photographers nowadays are using the baby as an accessory. An actual connection and expressions of love are getting lost in the fads of the day (not to mention technicalities such as direction of light). So, simplicity is always my rule of thumb. It was important for Matt and Erin to reflect Matt’s military service and love of country, so some of the images have that in mind. I want to thank Matt, Erin and little Max for allowing me this honor. Here are a few images:

Doug and Pegg’s Cleveland Botanical Gardens Photo Session

Yesterday I had the great opportunity to have a session with Doug and Pegg at the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.  I will be photographing their wedding this month at Landerhaven so we wanted to get  at least one session before then. This was a wonderful opportunity since it was pouring rain outside and we were warm and dry inside. The Botanical Gardens have an abundance of flora and fauna so it really is like being in a forest. It is amazing how realistic the Costa Rican exhibit truly resembles the real thing. Even the smell (I visited Costa Rica twice in the late 90’s). I tried to use only the light the was available.  Here are a few of the images.
