Dave and Ashlee’s Cleveland Wedding

On Saturday, I had the privilege of photographing Dave and Ashlee’s Cleveland wedding. The day started bright and early in Ashlee’s parent’s house in west Cleveland. The house was perfect for photos; great light; fantastic woodwork and antique furniture. I met Dave at Our Lady of Mount Carmel church where he finished up getting ready and we did some family photos. After the wedding ceremony, we meandered thru the west side of Cleveland to find unique locations for photos of Dave and Ashlee and their wedding party. That took us to some interesting locations and we ended up at the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. The night ended at Michaud’s in Strongsville where they had their wedding reception. Here are some images from the day. Be sure to leave Dave and Ashlee a comment, below, and remember to “Like” Spencer Photography Inc. on Facebook.

Dave and Ashlee’s Cleveland engagement session

As a Cleveland wedding photographer, one of the things that I like to do with my wedding clients is have a photography session with them before their wedding day (I usually insist on one). If my clients wish to have more than one engagement session I will do it and it is included in our wedding photography service. The better prepared they are for their wedding day, the better they will DO on their wedding day. This was Dave and Ashlee’s second session before their May wedding in Cleveland and reception at Michaud’s in Strongsville. I have to say, they are definitely ready for their wedding day. Here are a few images from the session. Be sure to leave them a comment, below, and remember to “Like” Spencer Photography Inc. on Facebook.

Vince and Lisa’s Akron Engagement Session – cleveland wedding photographers

Yesterday I met Vince and Lisa in Akron’s Merriman Valley for their engagement session. They will be getting married this month with their wedding and reception at Todaro’s Party Center in the Valley. The day was absolutely gorgeous. Sunny and just the right temperature for an engagement session in Akron. We drove around just looking for the right light combined with the textures of nature. They both did fantastic and I am looking forward to their wedding and reception at Todaro’s. Here are a few images from the session. Mark, Sandy and Cody redux – cleveland wedding photographers

Well we FINALLY were given the perfect weather conditions for Mark, Sandy and Cody’s Akron family portrait session. Mark and Sandy’s first engagement session was in the middle of winter when it was, literally, 19 degrees outside…and they MEANT for it to be in the cold!!! (see it -here- ). When we scheduled a photo session that would include Cody, it was cold and rainy -here- . We got what we could but decided that we needed to have a photo session when it was more comfortable. We met this time in downtown Akron and it was just beautiful outside. The sun was shining giving us ample opportunities for different lighting techniques. After this session, I have no doubt the Mark and Sandy and, especially Cody, are ready for their big day. They will be getting married in the Akron area with their wedding reception at Guy’s Party Center. Here are a few images from yesterday. Kristy’s One on One Workshop – cleveland wedding photographers, cleveland senior portrait photographers

From time to time I will get fellow professional photographers requesting one on one training with them to help them improve particular areas of their own photography. As a Cleveland wedding photographer, it is great to do these training sessions so that I can share the knowledge that I have acquired as a professional wedding photographer and portrait photographer. It’s is especially exciting, because it forces me to push the boundaries of my own knowledge by making me communicate that knowledge so that another professional photographer can easily understand. On Sunday, I spent the day with Kristy Steeves of Kristy Steeves Photography. Kristy had two of her clients, Tyra and Morgan, to model for us and we spent the day focused on natural light, posing and exposure. Light and exposure are THE two most important ingredients for a successful portrait so I really wanted to get Kristy to concentrate on those two things in particular. Most of our approach was focused on senior portrait photography since Tyra and Morgan are seniors in high school. They were both fantastic and Kristy is as lucky to have them as clients as they are to have her as their senior portrait photographer.  It was a pleasure to share what I know with Kristy and I hope that she got as much out of the day as I did. Here are a few images that I captured during the day. Be sure to “Like” Spencer Photography Inc. on Facebook.

Eric and Carolyn’s downtown Akron Photography Session – cleveland wedding photographers

Yesterday I was able to officially meet Eric and Carolyn for the first time during their engagement session. They will be getting married in August at the First Congregational Church of Tallmadge with their reception at Guy’s Party Center. They live in Florida and were in town for some wedding planning so we met up for their engagement session. We met in downtown Akron near the Akron Art Museum next to Musica at Urban Eats (yummy stuff there!) The day was beautiful and the weather was perfect. So, what do we do? We start our session indoors at Musica!! The light in there was beautiful and I just couldn’t resist. Like everyone that steps in front of the camera for the first time, they were a little apprehensive, but that quickly changed. Eric and Carolyn were fantastic and the camera just loves them. I am very excited to be taking part in their wedding day and very much looking forward to August. Be sure to leave them a comment, below, and remember to “Like” Spencer Photography Inc. on Facebook.

Akron Society of Professional Photographers – cleveland wedding photographers

Last night, I had the distinct honor of speaking to the Akron Society of Professional Photographers. The meeting was held in one of the corporate meeting rooms at the Galaxy Restaurant in Wadsworth, Ohio.  ASPP was the first professional photography organization that I participated in my career, and it’s, really, where I got my start in focused training and education in photography. It is always a little intimidating for me to speak to colleagues, since they are taking valuable time to listen to me in hopes of learning something that they did not know. Especially since I am not a “speaker” per se, in that I don’t sell myself as an educator but a photographer who is passionate about my craft and one the loves the industry (which is why my blog is 99% client related). So, as such, I am basically just sharing my opinion, approach and philosophy to how I achieve the results that I do. What a great bunch of photographers showed up last night. There were about 35 people all with incisive questions that kept the conversation moving forward and focused (which, for me, is good, if you’ve ever seen me speak). I always feel that I never have enough time to share everything that I feel I would like to, and that I don’t spend the time each subject deserves. It seemed to go well, though. I reconnected with some folks that I haven’t seen in a while and made some new friends who, hopefully, got as much out of listening to me ramble as I did from their great questions and feedback.

Thank you again to ASPP, Robert, Bob, Harvey and the gang for having me. It is always an honor.

Jon and Maria’s Akron Ohio Photography Session – cleveland wedding photographers

Yesterday, Jon and Maria braved 25 degree temperatures for their engagement session. Jon and Maria will be having their wedding this December at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Akron and their wedding reception will take place at Firestone Country Club. We met in Downtown Akron taking advantage of the cold weather, snow, steam and everything else the challenging weather had to offer. It was perfect wedding training for Jon and Maria since they are having a winter wedding. They did fantastic and will do great on their wedding day,  I am quite certain. Here are just a few images from their session. Be sure to leave them a comment, below, and remember to “Like” Spencer Photography Inc. on Facebook.

Self Portrait – cleveland wedding photographers

I’ve been invited by the Akron Society of Professional Photographers (ASPP) to speak to their group on March 18th 2013. I was honored to accept since it was ASPP where I got my start in the Professional Photographers of Ohio (PPO) and the Professional Photographers of America (PPA). These organizations have been invaluable to me and to my development as a professional photographer. Well, I get a call from them today telling me that they need a picture of me ASAP for their promotional material. I really dread getting IN FRONT of the camera and forget about trying to take a self portrait. But that is exactly what I had to do. They needed it right away and I didn’t have a thing to give them (I was actually asked for a picture last year when I presented at PPO but sent them my logo instead). So, in the shirt that I slept in (I kid you not) I set up in my living room and shot away. The image is below and I think that it’s obvious that I would rather be BEHIND the camera than in front. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the ASPP meeting on March 18, 2013 at the Galaxy Restaurant in Wadsworth Ohio. Be sure to “Like” Spencer Photography Inc. on Facebook.

Change Your Position and You Change Your Perception – cleveland wedding photographers

I have a philosophy that is summed up thusly…change your position and you change your perception. This is as much a life philosophy as it is a photographic philosophy. In life, as in photography, when we change our physical position it will change our perception of the way that we view things. In photography, I simply walk around my subject. In life, I get on a plane. Every trip that I’ve ever taken has changed my perspective on life. We get so comfortable in our own little worlds that we tend to ignore the fact that our world is simply how we perceive the environment in which we live. Changing my position always altars this perception. It is something that is very important for me and it greatly influences my work and my life. It reminds me to never settle or accept our initial perception of things. Always reach beyond that perception until we create a fresh realization of what and where we are. Below are a few images from my most recent change in position. My beautiful fiancee, Marie, was serving our country in her capacity in the U.S. Air Force so I joined her at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While she worked I drove all over the area which took me to the Arapaho Basin, Copper Mountain and beyond. The images are not necessarily breathtaking but the moments were. That is important when taking a photograph. It will not always be an outstanding photograph but it will always remind us of outstanding moments, and that is what makes the photographs invaluable.
